Martin oversaw Metro.co.uk’s mobile-first approach.

During Martin’s leadership of metro.co.uk, the site went from a relatively small companion site for the UK’s free newspaper Metro to being the fastest growing national newspaper website in the country, with a year-on-year increase in monthly users of more than 300%.

The site took off after a December 2012 relaunch when Martin was Head of Digital Content and product owner for the redesigned site. The decision to break with tradition and embrace an agile approach while moving from an internal CMS to WordPress was a pivotal one.

There was also a vital move to a mobile focus, which resulted in metro.co.uk becoming the first newspaper site to incorporate swipe technology and an emphasis on an edition concept. Read Martin’s blog post on the move from the time here.
